Over VND8 trillion poured into National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund

VTV.vn - The National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund has received VND8.046 trillion (over US$349.6 million), including foreign currency conversion, as announced by its management board.

The sum was raised by nearly 361,956 organisations and individuals as of noon on July 5.

Compared to the updated data at the same time yesterday, the Fund’s total balance increased to VND3 billion (nearly US$130,391).

To date, 19 units and organisations have committed to donate the national COVID-19 vaccine fund but have not yet transferred or fully transferred money as committed.

Vietnam needs 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine worth total around VND25.2 trillion (nearly US$1.1 billion) to inoculate 75 million people towards herd immunity.

According to Deputy General Director of the State Treasury cum Director of the Management Board of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund Nguyen Quang Vinh, temporarily idle capital of the fund will be deposited at the four largest commercial banks, Vietcombank, VietinBank, Agribank and BIDV, through the form of bidding.

* Vietnam reported 277 more local coronavirus infections, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City, over the 12 hours prior to 6:00am on July 6.

Ho Chi Minh City is now the country’s current largest COVID-19 hotspot with 230 cases.

Of the total, 228 cases were discovered in quarantine and sealed-off areas.

* Chairman of the People's Committee of Cai Lay town in the Mekong River Delta province of Tien Giang signed Decision No.2679/QD-UBND and Decision No.2680/QD-UBND on ending the partial blockade of Phu Thuan Hamlet in Long Khanh Commune from 3pm on July 5 and a part of Hoa Tri Hamlet from 4pm on July 5.

* On the same day, the Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee signed an express dispatch announcing that the COVID-19 prevention and control measures under the Prime Minister’s Directive No.15 would be stopped from 3pm on July 5.

* The People's Committee of Chau Phu District in the Mekong River Delta Province of An Giang said that the social distancing will be applied throughout the district under the PM’s Directive No.15.

* On July 5, the Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee issued a document to correct the implementation of COVID-19 prevention and control measures in Phu Quoc City. Accordingly, people who come to the island city must have negative test results for SARS-CoV-2.
