The institute is under the management of HCM City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. Its role is to improve the working environment as well as production quality and efficiency.
The forerunner of the Institute was the HCM City Centre of Inspection, Technician Training and Labour Safety. The new institute has more functions, including research, the application and transfer of labour safety and hygiene technology; proposing energy saving solutions; and inspecting the technical safety of machinery and materials.
In addition, the institute will also co-ordinate with schools specialised in labour safety and hygiene. It is expected that by 2020, that there will be 500,000 firms in HCM City with an increased need for workplace safety.
