VTV.vn - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved Ho Chi Minh City’s proposal to apply social distancing measures under the PM’s Directive 16 for 15 days starting 0am on July 9.

The PM asked Ho Chi Minh City not only to effectively fight against the epidemic but also create ways for industrial parks, export processing zones, hi-tech parks, factories and production facilities to ensure continued production.

Accordingly, safe places meeting the requirements and conditions for epidemic prevention and control, can continue to organise production and business, of which the option of creating conditions for workers to eat and rest on the premises of factories and industrial parks is encouraged in addition to specific and appropriate requirements.

At the same time, the city should actively coordinate with the relevant ministries, branches and localities, urgently agree on the plan and organise the implementation of synchronous solutions to minimise traffic congestion forfreight transport between the City and other localities in the region.

Specific plans must be implemented to ensure the timely supply of essential necessities to people in the locality.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City has prepared for a scenario of up to 15,000 COVID-19 patients as the total infections in the southern metropolis surpass 7,000, with hundreds of cases being reported daily.

To handle the surge in infections, the city has set up two temporary hospitals for COVID-19 patients in Thu Duc city and Binh Chanh district, both converted from resettlement apartment buildings.

Each of the hospital accommodates 3,000 beds, pushing the total number of beds in four temporary hospitals for COVID-19 treatment in Ho Chi Minh City to 12,000.

Hundreds of the city High Command and thousands of medical workers from hospitals across the city have been deployed to the four facilities.

Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said on July 7 that his ministry will mobilise about 10,000 medical workers to aid Ho Chi Minh City in its pandemic fight.

The ministry has also sent a document to the Ministry of National Defence, calling for assistance from military medical forces in the city.
