VTV.vn - After 14 days, floods and heavy rains have started to ease in many northern provinces. However, the disaster’s aftermath still poses challenges. In some localities, people are still blocked by water and need emergency efforts.

In Dien Bien Province, the Muong Cha section of Highway 12 connecting Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces - was severely affected after some 32,000 cubic metres of rock and soil buried a kilometre and a half of road. It may take up to a week to resolve the problem as springs have been filled with rocks and mud, posing problems for machinery trying to clear the road.

Meanwhile over the past 6 days, local residents in Viet Hai Commune, Cat Hai District in Hai Phong City have still been isolated by heavy rains. The area is still suffering from 1-2 metre high floods. Transport is still being conducted by boat, floating raft or in some cases swimming.

Regarding rescue and support operations, the Ministry of Industry and Trade intends to supply essential commodities such as rice, noodles and clean water to flooded areas.

People in affected regions in Quang Ninh, Bac Kan, Hoa Binh will be provided with adequate supplies of set price goods to curb potential speculation. The MOIT’s Domestic Market Department will continue monitoring the situation and provide localities with vital supplies.
