The request came after four trade bodies representing local manufacturers of footwear, garments, electronics and wood products proposed the Government accelerate vaccination or support enterprises to buy vaccines promptly and legally in order to provide free inoculations for their workers.
A joint document by the four associations called for government support to vaccinate as many as workers at the fastest rate possible so that they can keep operating as the COVID-19 situation has become serious at factories and industrial parks, especially in the southern region.
They said they have found a vaccine supplier in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but support from the Government and the Ministry of Health is needed for procurement.
All the costs related to the procurement and vaccination will be covered by the member enterprises of such four associations.
* In a related development, the Prime Minister has also asked the Ministry of Health to deal with a proposal by the pharmaceutical company Vimedimex to support its procurement of the Sputnik V vaccine from the UAE’s Royal Strategic Partner.
