VTV.vn - A parade of cyclists will roll through Hanoi streets on February 4, designated as World Cancer Day 2018, to raise public awareness of early cancer detection.

The event, initiated by the Hung Viet Cancer Hospital, will feature the participation of doctors and experts from the hospital and some popular Vietnamese artists.

The participants will highlight the benefits of detecting cancer early, as it helps to prolong life and minimise the costs of treatment. They will also provide basic knowledge of cancer and advice on how to prevent the disease.

According to the World Health Organisation, the number of people diagnosed with cancer each year worldwide has leapt to more than 14 million, with over 8 million dying from the disease, a number higher than the deaths due to HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.

In Vietnam, cancer is responsible for 94,000 deaths each year, ranking Vietnam among the 50 countries with the highest rate of cancer fatalities.
