The Fourth Quarter Competition of Road to Mount Olympia 2024 was a thrilling showdown between four contestants: Nguyen Phu (High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Education), Quoc Khanh (Kien An High School – Hai Phong), Quynh Huong (Da Phuc High School – Hanoi), and Son Duy (Tran Phu Specialized High School – Hai Phong).
In the Warm-up round, Nguyen Phu excelled, taking the lead with 85 points, followed by Quynh Huong with 60 points, Son Duy with 55 points, and Quoc Khanh with 30 points. During this round, the contestants felt a bit tense as they saw their opponents continuously pressing the buzzer. Quoc Khanh regretted his rough start, while Son Duy remained optimistic, believing he could make a breakthrough in the next three rounds.
In the Overcoming Obstacles round, during the second turn, Nguyen Phu was the first to answer but gave the wrong answer. Quynh Huong and Quoc Khanh quickly seized the opportunity and provided the correct answer, "pith helmet." However, Quynh Huong was faster, leading this round with 120 points. After the round, the contestants' spirits were a bit low due to the tension, but they quickly regained their composure with encouragement from host, Ngoc Huy.
In the Speed-up round, the contestants focused on taking the lead. For the first question, which was about identifying a painting, Nguyen Phu quickly took the lead with the correct answer, "Em Thuy" by painter Tran Van Can. Quoc Khanh quickly scored 40 points in the second question. The third question, a math-related puzzle, stumped all the contestants as none provided the correct answer. At the end of this round, Nguyen Phu maintained his lead with 165 points, followed by Son Duy with 155, Quynh Huong with 150, and Quoc Khanh with 100 points.
In the Final round, Nguyen Phu was the first to go and chose a set of three 20-point questions. He answered 2 out of 3 questions correctly, earning 40 points and bringing his total to 195 points.
Son Duy also opted for a safe approach with a set of three 20-point questions. On the first question, both Son Duy and Nguyen Phu lost points withincorrect answers. However, Son Duy quickly regained his momentum on the second question with a completely correct response, finishing with a total of 175 points, while Nguyen Phu lost 10 points.
Next up was Quynh Huong , the only female contestant, who chose a set of 20 – 20 – 30-point questions. Quynh Huong scored no points on the first probability question because her answer was incorrect. Quoc Khanh attempted to answer but also lost 10 points. She then earned 20 points on the second question by correctly responding with "inkstone and ink stick" when asked what the Four Treasures of the Study include besides paper and brush. However, Quynh Huong missed out on 30 points in the final question, finishing with 170 points.
Quoc Khanh then chose a set of 30 – 20 – 30-point questions, hoping to bring the broadcasting bridge to Kien An. However, this round did not go as planned, as he missed the opportunity on the first and second questions, which were picked up by Quynh Huong. For the final 30-point question, where contestants listened to an English audio clip and were asked what PM (Particulate Matter) stands for, Nguyen Phu seized the chance brilliantly to secure his victory.
In the end, Nguyen Phu led with 215 points, followed by Quynh Huong and Son Duy, both finishing with 175 points, and finally Quoc Khanh with 40 points. With this score, Nguyen Phu successfully secured a ticket to the Final and made Hanoi a live broadcast point.
Right after the fourth quarter competition, Nguyen Phu said: "For me, this result is quite surprising, but I feel very happy. I would give myself 9.5 out of 10 points because I lost 0.5 points for the two questions I answered incorrectly in the Final round."
The Final of Road to Mount Olympia 2024 – 24th Year will be broadcast live at 8:30 AM on Sunday (October 13, 2024) on VTV3 and streamed online on VTV Online.
