VTV.vn - Hanoi will prepare the best infrastructure for the Formula One (F1) Grand Prix, meeting new requirements as regulated by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has said.

The municipal official made the pledge on April 15 while receiving Chase Carey, President and CEO of the Formula One Group, to discuss preparations for the F1 Hanoi Grand Prix in 2020.

At the meeting, Chung said Hanoi is working with relevant agencies on transportation and customs procedures, along with working towards visa exemptions for foreign spectators to come to the event.

He took the occasion to ask Formula One Group to help Hanoi learn from and connect with firms responsible for hosting the race worldwide, ensuring quality of the sporting event.

For his part, Carey spoke highly of the project’s progress and lauded Hanoi’s vision in choosing a suitable location for the track, close to the My Dinh Sports Complex.

He vowed to facilitate the city in ensuring successful organisation of the international racing event, thereby promoting images of Hanoi and Vietnam.

Earlier the same day, Chung and his guest inspected the construction site of the F1 racetrack in Hanoi’s Nam Tu Liem district.

Construction of the racetrack began on March 20. The circuit will be more than 5.5km in length, with 22 turns. It will stretch over part of the My Dinh Sports Complex, while one section will be part of a public road.

In addition, an area has been zoned off for the construction of a control centre, a grandstand, warehouse, parking lot and helipads to serve racing teams and spectators.
