HCM City had the first opportunity of the match as Van Thuan forced Hanoi keeper Phi Minh Long to make a smart save with a 16th-minute long-range strike.
However, it was Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side who opened the scoring thanks to a quick fire from close range by Pape Omar Faye 19 minutes later following Quang Hai’s corner.
Hanoi’s advantage was doubled in the early minutes of the first half, with Van Dai receiving a cross from Van Quyet and slotting past HCM City goalie Thanh Thang.
Captain Van Quyet rounded off Hanoi’s comfortable win by scoring their third goal in the 75th minute, thus sending Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side to the title match against Quang Nam FC, who edged past Becamex Binh Duong 2-1 in the other semifinal earlier the same day.
