VTV.vn - Leaders of the Group of Seven wealthy nations have agreed to release more than $20 million of emergency aid to help countries battle wildfires in the Amazon rainforest.

The announcement of the $20m assistance package was the most concrete outcome of the three-day G7 summit of major industrialised democracies in Biarritz and aimed to give money to Amazonian nations such as Brazil and Bolivia, primarily to pay for more firefighting planes.

Leaders of G7 nations also voiced their support to the reforestation plan in the medium term. It is expected to be announced at a UN meeting in September. Also within the meeting's framework, French President Emmanuel Macron warned that he will block the new trade deal between the EU and Latin-America if Brazilian President had no practical steps to protect the Amazon forest.
