Four Vietnamese universities are listed in this year’s rankings including Ton Duc Thang University in 623rd place, Vietnam National University Hanoi ranked 949th, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh ranked 1,271st, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology ranked 1,356th.
In the ASEAN region, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand is ranked 516th, Mahidol University in Thailand came in 511th and University of Malaya in Malaysia is rated 205th.
The Best Global Universities rankings focus specifically on schools' academic research and reputation overall and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programmes, helping applicants accurately compare institutions around the world.
The Best Global Universities rankings encompass nearly 1,500 top institutions spread across 86 countries, up from 81 countries last year.
The rankings use 13 indicators to measure global research performance including global research reputation, regional research reputation, publications, books, conferences, total citations, number of publications among the 10% most cited and international collaborations, among others.
