VTV.vn - National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong asked the northern province of Hung Yen to work towards increasing the proportion of services in its economy over the next five years.

Phong made the statement while attending the opening session of the provincial Party convention on October 25.

She said Hung Yen should encourage and support enterprises to invest in tourism, establish ecotourism destinations aligned with historical and cultural sites, as well as to preserve and promote the value of the national historical area of Pho Hien, a former trading port.

In the past five years, Hung Yen has maintained stable economic growth, averaging 8.38% annually.

In 2020 agriculture accounts for 9.65% of the provincial economy while industrial production and services make up 61.5% and 28.85%, respectively.

The province’s income per capita has reached nearly VND80 million (US$3,400) while the poverty rate has dropped to below 1.8%.

The National Assembly leader recognised the achievements recorded by Hung Yen over the past five years and stated that the province needs to formulate a good plan for the 2021-2030 period with a vision towards 2045 in order to direct its development.

With regards to agriculture, she suggested the province look to high-tech and organic agriculture while promoting linkage and working to expand the markets for its agricultural produce.

At the convention, Hung Yen leaders called on all government staff, Party members, agencies, enterprises and the people to give donations to Vietnam’s central provinces to help them with post-flooding recovery.
