VTV.vn - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and WWF Vietnam held a forum on February 18 to discuss a new approach towards a sustainable agricultural landscape.

The event aimed to share sustainable agricultural landscape development models around the world, discuss good practices in Vietnam than can be replicated nationwide, and propose appropriate management and financial measures.

The forum also supported Vietnam’s policy-makers in formulating a plan of action for implementing agricultural development tasks and realising sustainable development goals.

MARD Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh affirmed the sector’s determination to fulfil green, transparent and responsible growth targets, while transforming the agricultural model with three pillars: ecological agriculture, modern rural areas and smart farmers.

He added that a multi-sectoral approach to sustainable agricultural landscape to ensure the health for humans and the planet is attracting the attention of many countries throughout the world, including Vietnam.

For his part, WWF Global Director Prasanna De Silva said that the Vietnamese government should take appropriate action to create and restore the ecosystem, given that biodiversity in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta is being severely affected by climate change and human activities.

He underlined that sustainable food production systems are one of the fundamental solutions to deal with current challenges.
