In response to this, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters (VASEP) has just proposed an adjustment to the tax policy for foreign merchants purchasing seafood directly from local sources. VASEP believes that the current legislation still possesses loopholes that allow foreign buyers to directly purchase seafood undetected. This costs the government tax income and makes it difficult for law-abiding firms. A proposed solution is to introduce new export tax rates for raw shrimp.
