This is the third play-day event organized this year by Think Playground - a Hanoi-based group of young architects and volunteers.
In order to organize for the Swing Festival today, the group launched a swing design contest among local architects and designers in September. Six low-cost and environmentally-friendly designs have been chosen for this festival.
Ngo Hung Cuong – Sun Swing designer – said: “Since the swing design contest was launched, I immediately think of the traditional material of bamboo. It requires a lot of techniques to work with bamboo. But the installing process is quite convenient; we only need a flat ground”.
Chu Kim Duc – founder of Think Playground volunteer group – pointed out: “Together with playgrounds for children, our group also targets creating playgrounds for everyone. We’re planning to create a relaxing space for the elderly, and a place for teenagers”.
Over the past three years since its establishment, Think Playground has set up around 30 free playgrounds for children in Hanoi and some other provinces in the north and central region. Such playgrounds are to encourage local children, and even adults to have more outdoor recreation activities.
