Workers need good vocational training and qualifications which can be applied in the workplace or Vietnam’s businesses will face a huge challenge.
STORY: 96% of Vietnamese firms are small and super small sized, 2% are medium and 2% are large firms. The figure shows limited competitiveness of Vietnam in the integration era. According to experts, the change in business mind-set needs to focus on long-term strategy, especially in terms of developing high-quality employees.
Research indicates that the quality of labour has recently improved, but not considerably. The proportion of the workforce with at least 3 months of vocational training only reached 30%.
"Our vocational curriculum is not as good as abroad. Most teachers only ask their students to learn rote learn basic content. Workers and engineers need to attach importance to vocational training and research in Vietnam." - Le Van Cuong, Vietnamese economist.
Universities in Vietnam need to renovate their methods to integrate into knowledge market. The authorities also have to improve the legal system to meet the demands of TPP agreement as well as international commitments that Vietnam participates in.
