The Vietnamese People's Navy handed over the fishermen to the Philippine Navy on February 16 to take them home. The handover was carried out under the direction of the Ministry of Defence in accordance with international procedures and practices.
Earlier on February 8, Vietnamese soldiers on the Son Ca Island discovered two people drifting towards the island's coral reef. The distressed fishermen were rescued and brought to the island to receive medical care.
