The intense heat is due to a thermal low combined with hot winds with high temperatures beginning from 11AM to 4PM.
The extreme weather hit Northeast Vietnam, as well as the Central coastal provinces and Son La - Hoa Binh region, from June 30.
The highest temperature was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius in Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province, while the highest temperature in Hanoi was reported at over 39 degrees Celsius.
The NCHF forecasts that the burning heat wave will run until July 5.
During this heat wave, the highest temperatures in Northern delta region including Hanoi are predicted to hover around 37-39 degrees Celsius and over 39 degrees in some places.
Meanwhile, the highest temperatures in the Central provinces are expected to range between 38-40 degrees and over 40 degrees in some places.
