VTV.vn - A festival kicked off in Can Tho city on July 7, aiming at boosting tourism demand in Ho Chi Minh City and 13 localities in Mekong Delta region.

The two-day event includes a series of activities such as a conference reviewing the six-month implementation of a programme on promoting tourism linkages between Ho Chi Minh City and the abovementioned localities, the launch of a council on boosting tourism cooperation between the two sides, and a programme entitled ‘Impressions of Vietnam’s tourism’.

In his opening remark, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People’s Committee, Duong Tan Hien said that the Mekong River Delta region possesses huge potential for tourism development thanks to its diverse ecosystem, rich local specialities, and intricate river system.

The region can offer visitors with assorted experiences from visiting fruit-laden gardens and beautiful beaches to exploring history and tasting indigenous excellent cuisine.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City is an attractive destination for hosting MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism.

The “handshake” between the southern hub and 13 Mekong Delta provinces has shown positive results in unlocking each side’s potential and expanding the market for both sides.

At a time when Vietnam has not yet opened its doors to foreign tourists due to COVID-19, the cooperation is an effective solution for both sides’ tourism sectors to recover their growth rates and get back on track.
