VTV.vn - : On May 4th, or the 16th day of the third lunar month, Lý Sơn Islanders in the central province of Quang Ngai celebrated the Feast and Commemoration Festival for Paracels (Hoang Sa) Soldiers.

This anniversary event, which dates back hundreds of years, commemorates the ancient soldiers who laid the foundation for establishing and protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly Archipelagoes.

The Feast and Commemoration Festival for Paracels Soldiers featured a reenactment of the send-off of soldiers hundreds of years ago, when they departed from Ly Son Island to establish sovereignty and exploit sea resources in the Paracel Archipelago. The fleets of soldiers were recreated in miniature, and their names and titles were written on the models. The solemn rituals demonstrated the islanders’ respect and gratitude for their ancestors.

The Feast and Commemoration Festival for Paracels Soldiers is also aimed at helping the youth understand more about the long-standing sovereignty of Vietnam over the Paracels and Spratlys, and to uphold the patriotic tradition. The festival has become an integral part of maintaining Ly Son Islanders’ awareness of the two archipelagoes.
