Exhibition spotlights archaeology in Binh Duong province

VTV.vn - A ceremony was held in the southern province of Binh Duong on April 24 to open the exhibition entitled ‘Binh Duong’s archaeology – Voice from the earth’ and announce the Prime Minister’ decision to recognise a wooden burial jar with a bronze drum lid in Phu Chanh commune as a national treasure.

The exhibition aims to give a general introduction to the pre-historic culture (around 1,800 - 3,500 years ago) in Binh Duong province.

Through the displayed artefacts, the event will also help younger generations to learn about the origins of ancient local population communities as well as raises public awareness of learning about history and promoting cultural heritages.

The wooden burial jar with a bronze drum lid, which was discovered in Phu Chanh commune in 1998, dates back to the second or first century BC (nearly 2,000 years ago).

This is a new type of tomb to be found in the archaeological history of Vietnam and the world for the first time.

The burial jar is about 61 cm in height and its mouth has a diameter of 46-50 cm. This is the second national treasure of Binh Duong.

So far, six archaeological sites have been excavated in the province, mainly in Tan Uyen town and Bac Tan Uyen district. Currently, the provincial Museum is storing and preserving over 100,000 archaeological relics.
