One of the two recipients of the awards is a project on the production of pure iron ore and sponge iron from red mud by Dr. Vu Duc Loi and Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan. The other award winner is a project on the application of advanced technology in vaccine production by Prof. Dr. Hoang Thuy Nguyên and Prof. Dang Duc Trach. Prof. Tran Dai Nghia, who died in 1997, was a scientist, a military engineer, and the father of Vietnam's defence industry.
