European yellow card warning on fishing
VTV.vn - The European Commission has issued a yellow card warning to Vietnam after the country failed to demonstrate sufficient progress in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

The yellow card is considered a warning that provides the opportunity for Vietnam to take measures to rectify the situation within six months or risk being issued red carded.

The EU's yellow card that was issued to Vietnamese aquaculture products signifies the importance of origin tracing for the sector. Many have proposed chain production as the solution for this issue.

An example of a successful production chain can be the Trung Son Aquaculture Processing Corporation. Their production chain encompasses both a shrimp farm and processing facility. The holistic production model allows them to reduce production and shipping costs, while guaranteeing proof of origin. The business has successfully penetrated the EU, US and Japanese markets and makes a total revenue of 20 million USD. If successfully replicated, this holistic approach to production promises to secure access to selective markets and improve the value of Vietnamese shrimp exports.
