Experts from international organisations, universities, non-government organisations and representatives from cities and provinces across the country attended the programme.
Discussion at the event focused on how to enhance the awareness of the risks posed by smoking and international experience on curbing tobacco sales, as well as to develop a strategy to attract the attention of target groups of heavy smokers.
According to statistics, Vietnam has about 40,000 people die of smoking-related diseases every year. This number is predicted to increase to 70,000 people in 2030. The proportion of people affected by passive smoking related problems in Vietnam stands at around 30 million people.
