How will this agreement impact business and how to effectively implement this commitment? These questions were discussed at the conference on the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement with the focus on intellectual property that took place this morning in Hanoi.
EVFTA's intellectual property section includes commitments on copyright, inventions, patents, pharmaceutical related commitments, and geographical indications. Most of these commitments are in accordance with Vietnamese law. However, the agreement also sets a number of standards higher or different than the Vietnamese law such as regulations on trademark termination or compensation for patent owners due to delays of licensing procedures. These regulations are being studied for inclusion in the Intellectual Property Law, expected to be submitted to the National Assembly in 2021.
