VTV.vn - The eighth Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023, themed “Buon Ma Thuot – Destination of coffee worldwide”, officially opened in Buon Ma Thuot City, the Central Highland Province of Dak Lak, on March 10.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Secretary of Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Trung, among others.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang praised the efforts made by Dak Lak provincial authorities and central ministries and agencies, in organising the festival.

The Central Highlands in general and Dak Lak Province in particular, have long been famous for their vast coffee regions and have been dubbed the "coffee capital of Vietnam". Vietnam's coffee brand has affirmed its position in the world market, added the Deputy PM.

In 2022, Vietnam's coffee exports ranked second in the world, following Brazil, reaching nearly 1.8 million tonnes, with an export value of about 4 billion USD.

The brand and geographical indication "Buon Ma Thuot Coffee" is present in more than 70 countries and territories.

He asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the State Bank of Vietnam, and the Vietnam Coffee – Cocoa Association, to continue accompanying and supporting the localities, in the development of the agricultural sector in general and the coffee industry in particular.

The Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival will be a chance for managers, scientists and businesses throughout the country and abroad, farmers and coffee lovers, to visit, enjoy, meet and exchange, about the expansion of the market, contributing to improving Vietnamese coffee’s position.

The event is also expected to promote the image, potential and strengths of Dak Lak Province in particular and Central Highland provinces in general, aiming to attract more investment for socio-economic development and cultural and tourism exchanges.

Right after the opening ceremony, an art programme was held, highlighting the land, people and culture of Dak Lak Province.

The eighth Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival will last until March 14.
