VTV.vn - Vietnam is one of the first countries to ratify the Paris Agreement, including a key commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Last year, Vietnam made positive contributions to the success of the 2015 COP21 conference in Paris. This year, Vietnam also expressed its responsibility to play a role in the struggle against climate change. The agreement was approved by the Prime minister last October. Vietnam has made efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions, although only a developing country.

This effort could be seen in Halong Bay where tourist boats have been using diesel bio fuel  over the past two years under a program piloted by Quang Ninh provincial authority with the support of Japan International Co-operation Agency – JICA.

Quang Ninh is currently actively co-ordinating with the coal industry to restore and improve the environment, planting trees in the waste dumps after exploiting. Oil crops will also be planted for the production of biofuel.

Provinces have also asked production facilities to install automatic monitoring systems connected to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, to control emissions. They have also, at the same time drafted policies to encourage environmentally-friendly production.

Some provinces in the south have piloted applying solar energy and wind power. According to the experts, to make good COP 21 commitments, in the future, further expansion of clean energy production is vital.

In the period from now to 2020, Vietnam will raise about 900 million USD for programs to adapt to climate change, including CO2 reductions.
