Dong Thap holds memorial and reburial services for remains of 97 martyrs

VTV.vn - A memorial and reburial ceremony was held at the Tam Nong Martyrs’ Cemetery in Phu Tho Commune, Tam Nong District, Dong Thap Province on July 27, for the remains of 97 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who fell on Cambodian battlefields during wartime.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Minh Tuan, said tens of thousands of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts went to fight on the Cambodian battlefields for the noble international cause, and the independence and freedom of the two countries. The sacrifices of Vietnamese soldiers contributed to the liberation of Cambodia and the promotion of the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

With the support of authorities, armed forces and people of the two provinces of Pua Sat and Pray Veng, Team K91 under the Military Command of Dong Thap Province has searched for and collected martyrs’ remains for many years.

During the dry season of 2023 - 2024, Team K91 focused on searching in the two provinces of Pray Veng and Pua Sat and collected 97 martyrs’ remains in eight months, but all of them have not been identified.

Since 2001, Team K91 has searched for and collected more than 2,160 remains of martyrs, including more than 90 identified. The team found more than 1,920 martyrs’ remains in Cambodia and more than 230 others in Dong Thap Province.
