To serve the demand for chưng cakes, a market selling phrynium leaves, commonly known as dong leaves in Vietnam, was established. There are now several chưng cake stores in Vientiane but many Vietnamese expatriates here still make chưng cake themselves as a way to reconnect with their origins.
