Unbalanced deals with fate of Vietnamese brides in Taiwan (China) who were divorced, undocumented and in some cases, having renounced to Vietnamese nationality but unable to naturalize while filing procedure of divorce. So these women remained helpless in foreign land.
Who are the brides without identification papers and without nationality? Why did they lose their nationality? Why don't they return to Vietnam with their relatives? Through the true and un-arranged pictures, the documentary help the audience find the answers.
"Unbalanced is the word that accurately describes the lives of the characters in the film. They fall into a situation in which they could be arrested at any moment for not bearing identification document. The documentary depicts their struggle to survive being illegal in foreign land and their homesickness"- director Ta Quynh Tu talked about the film.
