Defense Minister Ngo Xuan Lich spearheaded a fact-finding tour on the environmental remediation of the dioxin contamination project site on Sunday.
The project is being implemented by the Air Force Air Defense Command at the Ministry of National Defense and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
At the working tour, the minister asked concerned parties to effectively carry out and ensure the progress and quality of the second phase, while building and implementing similar projects in Bien Hoa and Phu Cat airports via non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) sponsored by the US and other countries.
He also suggested stepping up international cooperation to deal with the toxic chemicals found in hot spots and newly-discovered contaminated areas. The project began in June 2011. Site restoration and demobilization are expected to begin in 2018.
