According to calculations, the country's energy demands increase by about 10% each year and by 2030 Vietnam's power source structure will need to reach nearly 130,000 MW. However, Vietnam's main source of energy is still coal, which is being depleted and will soon largely depend on imports. Renewable energy such as wind power holds a lot of potential for Vietnam, but the biggest problem currently is the transmission system of EVN. It is expected that the development plan 8 will be completed in June 2020. The accurate calculation of the energy supply structure will be crucial to ensuring energy security and meeting the country's socio-economic development requirements in the coming years.
