The ASEAN Selections, organised by Thailand's Queen Sirikit and the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (SACICT), aim to preserve and promote folk arts and trades. This year, SACICT selected 10 outstanding textile and fashion designers from ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Designer Minh Hanh is Vietnamese representative.
Minh Hanh displayed her works at the ASEAN Selection 2016 exhibition from August 15 to 20 at Museum Siam Bangkok, and attended the ASEAN Selection 2016 Award Ceremony. The award was presented by Thailand’s Minister of Commerce.
Minh Hanh brought traditional products of the Mong ethnic group in Ha Giang province to the ceremony, including hand-made 3D phoenix embroideries and brocade cloths.
SACICT was established to promote and support the creation of Thai arts and crafts, as well as to promote their marketing both domestically and abroad.
The selection process was held on June 10 at Siam Kempinski Hotel. The works were selected by experts and distinguished persons in textile and fashion design in Thailand and Japan.
The designer was born in 1961 in the central Highlands city of Pleiku. After graduating from the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts College, she became a fashion designer. Her creative designs have won her several international awards.
In 1997, she won the New Designer at Asia Collection Makuhari Fashion Show in Japan. She was also presented with title Chevalier of Culture and Art in France in 2006 and Japan’s Fukuoka Prize in Arts and Culture category in 2015.
