The Government official made the call while receiving Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Keiichi Ishii in Hanoi on Tuesday.
He took the occasion to thank the Japanese Government and people for helping Vietnam respond to climate change and address the impacts of natural disasters. He also proposed Japan to provide non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) for projects to build a disaster prevention and control center and to increase the capacity of reducing risks of flash floods and landslides in the northern mountainous region.
The Japanese Minister stated that Japan is interested in important transport infrastructure projects that can drive growth such as the Long Thanh International Airport, high-speed railways, highways and urban railways in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other major cities.
He also confirmed that Japan would coordinate with Vietnam in installing early warning systems as well as implementing construction and non-construction solutions to effectively cope with natural disasters.
