VTV.vn - An online contest entitled ‘Vietnamese youths say no to cigarettes and E-cigarettes - No Smoking Challenge’ has been recently launched to raise youths’ awareness of tobacco harm.

The contest is open for individuals and groups aged under 35, who are encouraged to record short clips on protecting young people from the use of tobacco products; protecting the elderly, pregnant women and children from the harmful effects of tobacco; and building smoke-free environments.

The clips, lasting from 15 to 60 seconds, should be made public on the TikTok app with full hashtags #WNTD2020, #ThanhnienVietNam, #Noikhongvoithuocla and #NoSmokingChallenge.

The event is hosted by the Youth Union’s E-Portal in collaboration with the Ministry of Health’s Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund, and Vital Strategies, a global public health organisation.

It is among the activities in celebration of the World No Tobacco Day (May 31) and National No Tobacco Week 2020 (May 25-31), which has been launched by the World Health Organisation under the theme ‘Protection of youth from the effects of advertising and use of tobacco products’.

Assoc. Prof., Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Head of the Health Ministry's Department of Medical Examination and Treatment and Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund, said that the fund has worked closely with the Youth Union Central Committee to raise youth union members’ awareness of tobacco harm.

He called on young people to participate more positively in pointing out the truth about tobacco advertising campaigns in order to protect the health of themselves and that of their families and community.
