VTV.vn - A nationwide clean-up Campaign was launched on Thursday in Do Son beach, Hai Phong as part of Clean Up the World Campaign 2019.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the Vietnam Women's Union. With the theme "Local action, global impact", this year's campaign focuses on reducing and combating plastic waste pollution.

Recent statistics show that Vietnam ranks 17th out of 109 countries for the most plastic waste. The use of non-biodegradable plastic bags and plastic products, especially single-use plastic items, has created negative environmental consequences. Vietnam's goal is for all stores, markets, and supermarkets in urban areas to stop using single-use plastic items by 2021. After the ceremony, participants, including the locals, collected rubbish and cleaned up Do Son beach.
