Central Vietnam warned of heavy rains as temperatures plunge in the North

The latest warning from the national weather service showed that today, Nov 28, due to the intensified cold air in combination with the high east wind disturbances, provinces from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa have suffered from moderate rains, with some places witnessing heavy rains and thunderstorms, while the Gulf of Tonkin experienced strong winds and rough seas.

It is forecast that from tonight and tomorrow (Nov 29), the cold spell will further intensify in the North and the North Central, causing temperatures in the areas to fall to as low as 15-18C, even below 10C in some mountainous areas.

Rains are hardly occurring in Hanoi, while the capital city is suffering a chill with the common lowest temperature ranging from 16-18C.

Until December 1, heavy rains may pour in the Central and South-Central provinces with a total rainfall of about 150-350mm, even over 400mm in some places.

From tomorrow to November 30, heavy rains are also forecast in the Central Highlands with popular rainfall from 100-150mm, even over 200mm.

Combined with water level rise on some local rives in provinces from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa and in the Central Highlands, mountainous and low-lying areas are warned of high risk of flash floods, landslides and flooding.
