Mountainous regions from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai Province are warned of a high risk of flash floods and landslides while safety risks are predicted at hydropower reservoirs and irrigation works.
The NCHMF also warned of a possibility of prolonged heavy rain in central and south central provinces after October 21.
According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of 17:00 on October 16, rain, floods and landslides in central and Central Highlands regions have killed 57 people while seven remain missing.
In addition, downpours and floods destroyed nearly 650 houses, 168 sections of national highways, 33,600m of roads, 900ha of rice, 5,500ha of crops and 3,900ha of aquatic products, and swept away 445,700 cattle and poultry.
*Due to heavy losses caused by natural disasters, the National Assembly Office organised a ceremony on October 16 to raise donations for affected people.
The event saw the participation of Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, NA vice chairmen, and entire workers at the NA Office who donated at least one-day salary of theirs.
*The Red Cross Society of Ho Chi Minh City also launched a campaign on October 16 to raise funds for people in the central region who have been affected by the recent storm and floods.
The campaign will run until December this year.
First of all, the organisation will spend VND300 million (US$13,000) along with goods and necessities to present to affected people in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue to help them quickly overcome difficulties, according to the Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Ho Chi Minh City Tran Truong Son.
