The visit demonstrates the importance Vietnam attaches to elevating the friendly relations and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries to a higher level.
An official welcoming ceremony was held on Wednesday at the royal palace in Phnom Penh for Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang who’s on a two-day visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.
Later on, talks were held between the two leaders. The state president reiterated Vietnam’s policy of developing ties with Cambodia under the motto good neighbours, traditional friendship, and lasting and comprehensive co-operation for the benefits of the two peoples, for peace, stability, co-operation and development in region.
On the same day, Vietnamese State President Quang met with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdek Hunsen.
Both leaders agreed to continue exchanges of visits, particularly visits by the people who are living near the common border. They hoped that the governments of Cambodia and Vietnam will work to increase bilateral trade revenue to 5 billion USD. Regarding sub-regional and global co-operation, the State President expressed his hopes that Cambodia will continue to support Vietnam in organising the 7th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Co-operation Strategy or ACMECS and the 8th Summit of the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Co-operation in Vietnam in October.
A vocational school in the Cambodian province of Prey Vang received 1 million USD in funding to mark the visit./.
State President Quang also held talks with Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin. The two leaders agreed to push the comprehensive relations between Cambodia and Vietnam. The state president hoped that Cambodia would work on legal documents creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese living and working in Cambodia, strengthening the friendly relations between the two neighbours.
Also on the same day, State President Quang met with the President of the Cambodian Senate Say Chhum.
Cambodia and Vietnam are committed to speeding up communication, the education of the younger generations and continuing to nurture bilateral ties. The two countries committed to bring the traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation between Cambodia and Vietnam to higher level./.
