VTV.vn - Cambodian police arrested opposition senator Hong Sok Huar on Saturday, after Prime Minister Hun Sen accused him of treason for posting a document on social media distorting the 36-year-old border agreement between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Hong Sok Hour was accused of misconstruing the treaty’s Clause 4, saying the two sides will sign an agreement to abolish their border line. A press release by the Cambodian Government, issued right after PM Hun Sen’s accusation, rejected the distortion, stating that the Government will use strict legal measures against Hong Sok Hour to maintain public order and law in the country.

The press release also quoted the treaty’s Clause 4, saying that the two sides will sign an agreement based on the existing border line, with a determination to preserve their long-term peace and friendship. The arrest of Hong Sok Huar shows the Government’s resolution to exclude its opposition’s involvement in border issues with Vietnam.
