The event was jointly held by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Hanoi Chapter Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, Prudential Vietnam Assurance Private Ltd. and the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
With hundreds of people having donated their blood during the event, the event expected to collect at least 300 blood units.
The donations will be used to treat a large number of patients in need of blood.
In 2018, the country collected nearly 1.4 million blood units, which was equivalent to 75% of the demand for blood for surgery, treatment and provision nationwide.
During Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, the number of blood donors is often reduced while the need of blood for emergency treatment increases. An increase in blood donation is the only way to handle the shortage, especially of type O blood, during the end of the year and the Lunar New Year period.
