VTV.vn - A ceremony was held in Ben Tre province on the evening of April 26 to announce the Prime Minister’s decision to recognise Ben Tre city as a second-class urban area and to observe the 44th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2019).

The event was attended by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Deputy Prime Minster Trinh Dinh Dung, leaders of ministries and sectors, as well as Vietnamese heroic mothers and local residents.

Since its liberation, Ben Tre town has made significant progresses in its recovery process and development in all fields of economics, culture and society.

Thanks to the determination of the local authorities and people, the town was recognised as a third-class urban area in 2007. Ben Tre city was established in 2009 following a Prime Minister-approved decision.

Since then, all available resources have been mobilised to facilitate the city’s socio-economic development, bringing a new appearance to the city.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asked Ben Tre city’s Party Committee, authorities and people to promptly review and update its planning on urban development as well as current land funds for the development of major socio-economic projects.

Special attention is needed in upgrading the city’s infrastructure, ensuring housing for low-income residents, fostering administrative reform, and creating favourable conditions for locals to run businesses, he stressed.
