VTV.vn - At least 94 people died when ferry sank in the Tigris river in Mosul in northern Iraq Thursday, which residents said was the worst in recent memory.

At least 55 people, including 19 children, were rescued, officials said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi paid a visit to the morgue where bodies recovered from the river were taken. He expressed deep condolences to families of the victims and pledged that those responsible would be held accountable. He also decreed 3 days of national mourning.

10 people were arrested late on Thursday, security sources said, while rescue workers were still looking for missing passengers. The ferry can normally carry 50 people but there were 250 on board before the incident.
