VTV.vn - The 14th Assembly of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI 14) officially concluded in Hanoi, on September 22, following four days of serious, responsible and effective working.

At the beginning of the closing session of ASOSAI 14 on Saturday, the participants devoted a minute of silence to remember late Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, who passed away due to illness in Hanoi on September 21.

Delegates agreed to issue the “Hanoi Declaration”, aiming to transmit the most important messages of ASOSAI 14, and the seventh ASOSAI symposium themed “Environmental auditing for sustainable development”.

The declaration proposes the promotion of knowledge sharing in the ASOSAI community, in parallel with the capacity building activities for the member supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in the field of environmental auditing for sustainable development, while calling for the realisation of sustainable development goals and the handling of the global environmental challenge.

The declaration affirms the desire to achieve economic growth in harmony with sustainable development through a number of measures, such as sharing knowledge and experience, disseminating standards and guidelines on environmental auditing, organising intensive training courses on environmental auditing, encouraging the implementation of joint audits between the member SAIs, developing a regional report on environmental auditing, issuing regulations on environmental auditing to a create legal basis for the member SAIs and strengthening cooperation with external organisations.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, State Auditor General of Vietnam, Ho Duc Phoc, ASOSAI Chair for the 2018-2021 tenure, pledged to stand by the member SAIs in realising the vision of ASOSAI through the implementation of strategies, programmes and plans in a proactive, creative and effective manner.

He called on the ASOSAI’s member SAIs to continue actively cooperating and sharing experience and initiatives in order to further contribute to the unceasing development of the ASOSAI community, thereby together overcoming all challenges of the times to affirm ASOSAI’s values and visions towards Asia and the world.

The delegates unanimously elected the member SAIs of the ASOSAI Executive Board and the ASOSAI Audit Committee for the 2018-2021 tenure. Accordingly, the 2018-2021 ASOSAI Executive Board includes 12 member SAIs, namely Vietnam, Thailand, China, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Russia, Nepal and Bangladesh. The 2018-2021 ASOSAI Audit Committee consists of two SAIs: Turkey and Kazakhstan.

Also at the meeting, the Republic of Korea SAI transferred the role of ASOSAI Secretary General to the Chinese SAI. Accordingly, the Chinese SAI officially assumed the role as Secretary General of ASOSAI for the 2018-2021 term.

In addition, the Congress approved the Palestinian SAI as a new member of ASOSAI.
