Earlier in 2018, the Directorate of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) signed a cooperation agreement to help apply information technology in fishery resource management.
These important applications will help the agricultural sector in the management of fishery breeding and resource exploitation; the development of resources and ensuring safety for fishermen and fishing boats; and the prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities. Recently, the fishing vessel management system named VNPT-VSS was piloted for fishermen in Da Nang. The initial response from fishermen has been good so far. In the near future, all fishing vessels will be equipped with this system.
