Organized by the World Health Organization, in conjunction with relevant ministries and agencies in Vietnam, the event follows the theme "No action today, no medication tomorrow". The usage of antibiotics is needed in some cases of treatment for humans, plants and animals. However, increased abuse of antibiotics has led to an increase in cases of antibiotic resistance. According to the WHO's 2014 Global Report on Antibiotic Resistance on figures collected from 114 nations, this has caused prolonged sickness in patients across all ages, and has increased the rate of death.
