The tower is one of 14 tower ruins that remain from the Chăm culture, which existed in the area between the 2nd and 15th centuries AD. Archaeologists predict that the foundation of the Chà Rây tower was built between the 11th and 12th century.
So far, of the 14 tower ruins in Binh Dinh, Chà Rây is the the third to be excavated after Lai Nghi and Rừng Cấm.
