VTV.vn - To improve the tourism industry in Vietnam, the Vietnamese government is revising the outdated 2005 the Law on Tourism.

The proposal of the amended law on tourism is being discussed in the National assembly and is expected to create a breakthrough for Vietnamese tourism. Many provisions in the 2005 Law on Tourism are outdated and impractical in the current context of global integration. For example, tour guides can easily get work permits and move from one travel agency to another if they make any mistakes. The draft law on Tourism is expected to create a clear mechanised system for tourism.

"After 6 adjustments, the draft law on tourism has been shortened to 8 chapters and 82 articles. The draft law considers tourists the key holder and tourism one of the spearheads of the economy", said Vu The Binh - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Tourism Association.

"There are still some challenges to implement the new law because there are overlapping areas between different laws and articles. The National Assembly is reviewing the proposal to create the necessary adjustments", said Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - Deputy Director General, Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism.

By 2020, tourism is expected to become a spearhead of the economy, creating momentum for the development of other sectors. Vietnam expects to receive 17 to 20 million foreign visitors by 2020.
