VTV.vn - Four airports in the central region of Vietnam have resumed operations on October 27 afternoon after Typhoon Trami made its way through the region.

Specifically, the Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang city and Phu Bai International Airport in Thua Thien – Hue province returned to normal services from 16:00, and Chu Lai Airport in Quang Ngai province from 13:00. Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh province is expected to normalise its services from 17:00.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam issued a dispatch ordering the suspension of operations at the Phu Bai International Airport from 6:00 to 22:00 on October 27, the Da Nang International Airport from 6:00 on October 27 to 4:00 on October 28, the Dong Hoi Airport from 6:00 to 19:00 on October 27, and the Chu Lai Airport from 10:00 on October 27 to 10:00 on October 28, given that the storm poses potential threat to the safe operation of the airports.

Airlines have adjusted their operation plans to ensure safety for passengers and flights. Passengers have been advised to keep a close watch on the storm while any flight changes arising from weather conditions would be updated on the airlines’ fanpages and websites or via phones and emails provided by customers.

Typhoon Trami, the sixth to hit the East Sea this year, made landfall in Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang and Quang Nam provinces at about 13:00 on October 27, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the maximum wind speed near the center of the storm reached level 8 (62-74 km per hour), with gusts up to level 10.

It is forecast that by 1:00 on October 28, the storm will move southwest and then southeast at a speed of 3-5 km per hour, weakening into a tropical depression over land in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Da Nang. The wind speed will be at level 6, with gusts up to level 8.

The meteorological agency warned of a high risk of flooding in low-lying coastal areas, as well as the possibility of dyke and embankment erosion along the coast from Quang Tri to Quang Nam.

Before landing in the central Vietnam, Trami swept through northwestern Philippines on October 25, leaving at least 85 people dead and 41 others missing.
