VTV.vn - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference yesterday morning to review the implementation of the Law on Co-operatives.

Implemented in 2012, the law was expected to provide a breakthrough in agricultural restructuring and help ensure sustainable incomes for Vietnamese farmers. However, reports from the conference show that only 10% out of the registered co-operatives have operated well, working as effective outlets for farmers.

Statistics in 2015 by the ministry showed that the country had some 10,900 agricultural co-operatives with 7.3 million members. 80 percent of the co-operatives have not proved efficient while another 10 percent have ceased operations entirely. As a result, the ministry has urged authorities to take measures to help 50% of existing co-operatives improve their operations in the coming time.
